Night Photography

January 14, 2016

Heya everyone! So my wife and I went to Disneyland recently - not to ride the rides or anything, it was strictly a "photo trip." We went largely to work on night/low light photography. Usually at most weddings, the light is terrible - there is either very low light, or the light you have to work with is just boring - so it's helpful to always try to improve your low light shooting skills. It's kind of a never ending quest for low light perfection. Anyone with a cell phone can take night time pictures - and they usually look fairly decent. But the trick is shooting in low light and still getting the details. Getting the lights and the dark to look natural - making sure you can see the people, but not having the lights "blown out." It's actually pretty hard to do quickly - and you have to be able to do it quickly at weddings. So on this trip we practiced. Not really expecting to get anything great, we just shot pictures. But I was particularly happy with this shot - it's not perfect, not at all - but I like it :) The framing isn't exactly how I would have liked it, but they were getting ready for the big water show at California Adventures, so the places we could stand were very limited. But still.... I kinda like it :)
